City Hardware / Florence, Alabama
We knew we were going to Florence, Alabama for our daughter’s softball tournament but we didn’t plan ahead. I mean we didn’t go ahead and choose where we would go eat - mainly because our kids can be super picky… well our eight year old son is picky - so we have to find a place where we can take him. Family-friendly is where it’s at with him. So when we found out that some of the parents wanted to eat at City Hardware, we were one million percent on board. The owner of Ricatoni’s in Florence opened City Hardware in 2012 to serve “American cuisine with a southern accent”… and they have sushi on the menu too. So there’s something for everyone!
They were able to accommodate our large group and service was excellent. So let’s move onto the food! Up first - the burgers that we ordered.
I had a little bit of a love affair with this burger. Can you tell? Wanted to get in close and intimate with the pictures. The first burger pic is the California Burger as it is on the menu - Fresh ground Burger with avocado, Applewood-smoked bacon, caramelized onions, Dijon horseradish, American cheese & greens on a Hardware speciality roll. I ordered the California Burger with an egg on top. Y’all. Order it with the egg on top. The creamy egg with the creamy avocado is heaven. So good.
Our friend ate at City Hardware before and wanted to get the Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf again. So you KNOW it has has to be delicious. When you know something is delicious, it’s hard to order something else. I totally get that because that is everyone! The Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf is made of ground beef, pork & Italian sausage, wrapped in Sriracha BBQ-glazed bacon & served with caramelized onion mashed potatoes. We want Sriracha in everything! It looked fantastic. That’s on my list to try next time!
Here’s the thing about Nick - if there’s pork and apples or chicken and pineapple on the menu, it draws him right in. He loves the combo! Oh and if it’s bourbon glazed, then watch out! Nick order the Grilled Pork Chop that is a hand-cut pork chop with brown sugar & balsamic apples served with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetable of the day - which was street corn on the day we went. That sauce though - YUM! The sauce ran right into the mashed potatoes which made them extra delicious.
When our daughter got her order, the entire table was IMMEDIATELY jealous. Wow it was so good! She ordered the Pecan Crusted Catfish which was a catfish fillet dusted with pecan flour, deep fried on a bed of jasmine rice & topped with a sauce of Andouille sausage & sautéed shrimp and fries. When I looked at the picture, it looked like grits! But the menu says jasmine rice so we’ll go with rice. I’m going to try this at home because Florence is quite a drive and I have to have this again!
We didn’t get any apps or dessert! I think I’ll have to go back to some of these restaurants and just get apps and desserts because they all look too good to pass up. Makes me sad to say no to dessert.
Until next time -
Nick and Jenny
