MidiCi The Neapolitan Pizza Company / Mountain Brook, Alabama
I can remember seeing all of the social media pics of MidiCi when they first opened. Nick and I were incredibly jealous! The pizzas looked so delicious - wood-fired pizzas always pull me in. That little bit of char on the ends…. mmmmm…. We decided to wait and try them out in 2019! Nick didn’t get to come out with me so I invited my sister to go to MidiCi with me for lunch.
We met early for lunch and found out that they have a lunch special at the Mountain Brook location! It’s a fantastic deal: $9.95 plus tax for a coke product, a slice of cheese OR pepperoni pizza, 1/2 of a House Salad OR Caesar Salad, and a cup of the Soup of the Day.
We didn’t order the lunch special because we wanted to try an appetizer and specialty pizzas. You can find their menu here.
I started my meal with a couple of glasses of white wine. I love afternoon wine… makes me feel very adult like and relaxed. It’s totally worth it.
The burrata was creamy, the melon sweet, and the prosciutto was salty - it’s really the perfect combination. We used to live in Rome, Italy and eating the melon and prosciutto brought us right back. If only someone would bring over some Rosetti and Pizza Bianca - it would be AH-MAY-ZING! The small plates or appetizers all looked so good - but we couldn’t try all of them for lunch. We were super excited about the one we chose!
My sister loves Margherita Pizzas - she checked the menu before we met at MidiCi and selected the Margherita. This pizza has Italian tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, parmesan, basil, and extra virgin olive oil. The dough is thin, soft, and chewy. The edges were puffed perfectly with a bit of char on the crust. I don’t usually eat the crust of pizzas unless they taste exactly like these. Yum.
The second pizza pictured is the Bacon N’Egg Pizza. This pizza has fresh mozzarella, applewood smoked bacon, housemade spicy sausage, garlic, oregano, and is topped with a freshly cracked egg. There’s no tomato sauce on this pizza. The egg was over easy - just the way I like it. I see pizzas similar to this one on Insta and I HAD to try it. It was everything I hoped it would be. I pretty much ate all of it… starting with the slice with the most egg.
We really enjoyed MidiCi and hope you visit them. The restaurant is a bit hidden in a shopping center behind some construction which is disappointing! I think they would get more traffic if you could see them from the main road. The staff was very friendly and the food arrived quickly. I believe their lunch special is new - it’s a fantastic affordable lunch! You could go for lunch and then walk around the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to burn calories and then head back for dessert. I couldn’t fit dessert in my stomach because I couldn’t stop eating the pizza.
Hopefully Nick and I will make it for a date night.
